Friday Update

June 24, 2016

Good morning everyone, It’s Friday!! Need I say more?? Joey and I will be taking some time off next week for some business but before we go I wanted to share a couple things with you. Checking the weather maps this morning, there are no storms to report on. Remember, you can get complete forecasts and updates 24/7 on One Caribbean Television, if you are not currently getting the station, why not call your local cable provider and ask them to add it to your lineup. In the news, some troubling news from Barbados where certain elements are trying to or at least threatening to disrupt the annual crop over festival. Police and political sources say they will not let this happen. Joey and I will be headed to Barbados for our annual coverage of the event for carnival week at the end of July. In other news, word from Jamaica that they are trying to revitalize their banana industry. Minister Dermon Spence says a huge demand both locally and in the export market shows the need for the increase. Thursday Thoughts

Good morning everyone, hope your Thursday is off to a good start. Just a reminder that Joey and I will be gone next week on some business. Checking our weather maps this morning, there are no developing storms to report on. Again tonight we will find showers and occasional thunderstorms across most of the Caribbean. In the news today, the two victims of the Bahamas plane crash a couple days ago at the South Bimini Airport have been identified, they are Terrance Gibson and Anthony Smith. The two were testing a small plane that had just been repaired when it went down shortly after takeoff. In other news, god news for hourly employees in the US Virgin Islands. On June 21st the minimum wage was increased to $8.35, it will increase to $9.50 on June 1, 2017 and again to $10.50 on June 1, 2018. Wednesday Outlook

Goof morning everyone and happy “hump day” Wednesday! Checking the weather maps this morning, there are no developing storms that we are concerned with, again tonight we will see showers and occasional thunderstorms around the Caribbean. We will continue to watch for any developing storms, we have has four Tropical Storms already this season. Remember also that you can get complete weather forecasts and storm details on One Caribbean Television. If you don’t get the station, call your local cable provider and ask them if they would consider adding it to your local lineup. In the news, a US pharmaceutical company has been given the green light to begin human trial for a zika virus vaccine. Results should be available this fall. Zika is the mosquito carrying virus that has been a big threat to pregnate women. Good news for coffee drinkers in the US, the premium coffee Nespresso from Cuba will be sold again in the US for the first time in 50 years. Tuesday Thoughts

Good morning everyone, it is good to be back with you. Checking the weather maps this morning, remnants of Danielle have moved into east central Mexico and continue to produce rain across the region. There are no other storms to report on at this time. Most areas across the Caribbean will experience showers and occasional thunderstorms for this evening. In the news today, a small plane crashed on the island of South Bimini yesterday in the Bahamas, two people were killed in the crash that is under investigation. In other news, sharks are safer across the Caribbean Sea with the announcement of four new shark sanctuaries in the region. St Maarten, The Cayman Islands, Curacao and Grenada are all pledging to protect sharks in their waters. Well, that’s all for now, have a great day everyone and keep checking back.

Monday Update

Good morning everyone, we hope you all had a nice weekend. It is good to be back with you after a couple weeks away from the weather center. Checking the weather maps this morning, Tropical Storm Danielle is sitting off the coast of Mexico in the gulf. This storm is expected to make landfall today or tonight in central eastern Mexico. This is the 4th Tropical Storm of the early season. In the news, congratulations to the chefs of The Turks and Caicos who brought home two gold and four silver medals from a prestigious cooking competition in Miami, Florida. Also, the island of St Vincent is getting ready for their annual carnival coming up the first of July. Ell that’s all for now, have a great day everyone.

Wednesday Update

Good morning, it is hump day and the first day of June. Joey and I are getting ready to take off on some personal time starting tomorrow. Checking the weather maps for you this moening, Post Tropical Cyclone Bonnie is still hugging the US coast. Bonnie is currently 84 miles south of Wilmington, North carilina with winds of 10 mph and moving to the northeast at about 8 mph. There are no coastal watches or warnings issued. Just a reminder that today is the official kick off date for the Atlantic hurricane season. The season runs through November 30st.
