Tuesday Thoughts

May 17, 2016

Good morning everyone, hope your Tuesday is going well. Checking our weather this morning, that low pressure we were watching in the Pacific has fallen apart, I told you we were not really concerned with it. We don’t see any developing storms although we do see a few thunderstorms in central America and the gulf of Mexico. Again tonight look for numerous scattered showers throughout the islands. In the news today, Jamaica Minister of Finance Audley Shaw is in the news again, this time he is saying his country must move with urgency to develop it’s medical marijuana industry which could create welth for his country. Congratulations to Barbados, their economy grew 1.7% for the first quarter of 2016 thanks to another strong winter tourist season. Long stay arrivals were reported up 7%. Finally here is a date to put on your calendar, the Antigua Summer festival (Carnival) will be held July 22 to August 2nd. This will be the 60th celebration. Monday Update

Good morning everyone and thanks for checking back with us. We hope you had a great weekend. Checking the weather maps this morning we are watching a low pressure system located in the Pacific ocean about 950 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja, California. This system is moving west-northwest at about 5 to 15 miles per hour. As of now, this system looks like it has little chance for development, however we will continue to watch it. In the news, Jamaica Finance Minister Audley Shaw recently said if all goes well, personal income tax could be a thing of the past within five years. Early returns are giving Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina a strong lead in his bid for re-election. Friday Update

Good morning everyone and T.G.I.F. (there I said it for you)…..we are on the verge of another weekend. Checking the weather maps this morning, we don’t see any developing storms as we head into the weekend. We see a couple areas of thunderstorms in South America and parts of Mexico, but most of you will see the usual scattered showers as you head out this evening. Stories making news on the Friday, Curacao has reported a 13% increase in tourism during the month of march. The island of Jamaica will sign a multi destination marketing agreement with Cuba today. It has been announced that Haiti’s Presidential elections have been pushed back to October when the Senate races will take place, elections have already been cancelled three times. Finally today, LIAT flight attendant Deann Pat Porsha Palmer will remain in jail till May 19th, she is accused of bringing cocaine into Barbados recently. Good morning everyone, hope your Thursday is going well so far. Checking the weather maps this morning, there are no developing storms to be concerned with. Looks like Guyana may be getting some heavier thunderstorms today. Also some thunderstorms are showing up across Mexico. In the news, the sporting world is remembering legendary cricket commentator Tony Cozier who died recently in Barbados at the age of 75. In travel news, the CDC has issued a Zika travel alert for the island of St Bart’s. Finally, the ABC islands of Curacao, Aruba, and Bonaire are completing a study to bring ferry service between the three islands, the survey will be put out for public input and the bids for ferry service providers. Wednesday Update

Good morning everyone, it is hump day! Hope your Wednesday is going well so far. We checked the weather maps this morning and there are no developing storms out there. Keep in mind the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1st. We are showing an area of showers and thunderstorms in the Caribbean Sea, they however do not look like a threat to anyone. In the news, good news for the Caribbean as it is now the fastest growing vacation destination in the world with 7% last year. Some of the most visited islands include Cuba, Curacao and Barbados. Speaking of Barbados, singing star Rhyanna is providing money for college scholarships. A hotel construction collapse happened recently in Westmorland Jamaica, several workers were injured in the accident. The hotel has been an issue some complaints in the past. Most of you will find scattered showers around tonight with an occasional thunderstorm in a few spots. Again tonight you might want to take an umbrella with you as you venture out. Stories making news today, two Americans are back in the US after being detained in the Dominican Republic for an accident that was not their fault. Cuba has been the center of attention for a number or reasons recently, now they are saying it may be the next big fishing destination for deep sea fisherman. Good morning everyone, hope you all had a great weekend, and hope mom had a very special day yesterday. Checking the weather, there are showers and thunderstorms just south of Haiti however there are no major storms developing that we should be concerned with. In the news, large power outages have been occurring in Venezuela, the country has issued mandatory blackouts to save electricity. Some people are blaming government mis-management. The cruise ship that recently went to Cuba was back in Florida this past weekend, the ship was the first crew ship to visit the island from the US in over 50 years. Good morning everyone, T.G.I.F.!! As we are getting ready to head into another weekend, I certainly hope the weather will cooperate for all your planned activities. Checking the weather maps this morning we find a large area of showers and thunderstorms from the Atlantic ocean down through Haiti and the eastern coast of Jamaica. Other then that, they seem to be no developing storms of concern as we head into the weekend. The storm team here at One Caribbean Television remains on the outlook for ant potential problems as we near that June 1st start to the Atlantic hurricane season. In the news, Jamaica police continue to investigate the murder of two American missionaries , they are talking to a lady that they were building a house for, she was the last person to see them alive. Good morning everyone, hope your Thursday is going well. Checking the weather maps this morning it looks like there are numerous showers and thunderstorms in the Atlantic with a few of those reaching from the Bahamas to the island of Cuba. There are also numerous showers and thunderstorms across central America. Within this rain pattern, there are no major storms developing. In the news, the investigation continues into the death of two American missionaries in Jamaica, there is still no motive and no suspect. Isis is recruiting in the Caribbean where they have recruited approximately 100 people from Trinidad and Tobago. The St Lucia Jazz festival is underway, it is one of the biggest in the Caribbean. Good morning everyone, it is hump day! Joey and I are getting back into the swing of things after being gone last week to Saint Thomas. Checking the weather maps this morning there are no developing storms to report on. The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1st and projections are for a normal season this year. In the news, two American missionaries were killed this past weekend in Jamaica, no motive or suspect yet. There is a chance the baseball game between the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates won’t be played in Puerto Rico at the end of the month, there is concern between the baseball players of the zika virus.
