Friday Updates

February 26, 2016

Good morning everyone, hope your Friday is going well. Looking at the calendar, we are entering the last weekend of February, can spring be that far away? It’s amazing to me to see what is happening in Cuba, after decades of isolation, the US is beginning to open up relations with the island. Cuba has always been a player in the Caribbean region, attracting many visitors from all over, but now they will see an influx of American tourists for the first time in a very long time. The question now is how will this affect the rest of the Caribbean? I guess we will just have to wait and see. Checking the weather maps this morning, we don’t see any storms developing as we had toward the weekend. The official opening of hurricane season for the Atlantic region is still three month away. Just to keep you informed, Joey and I will be taking some personal time off beginning next Thursday with a trip to St Kits and Nevis around march 15th. Another reminder that if you have youngsters in the house, make sure that they tune in The Sunshine Fun Club and join Joey and me on Saturday and Sunday mornings on One Caribbean Television, it’s fun and educational. Well, that’s all for now, have a great weekend everyone and keep checking back with us.

Thursday Thoughts

February 25, 2016

Good morning everyone, only one more day until the weekend! I was looking at the weather maps in the US this morning and it looks like parts of the north and northeast are in for another round of snow. Checking the weather maps for the rest of us, there are no storms on the horizon that should cause us any problems. Looking at the calendar it is hard to believe that February is almost gone. Next stop St Patrick’s Day. Joey and I will be headed to St Kits and Nevis around the 15th of March, this will be very exciting since we have never been there. “Bob’s thought of the day”. Did you ever wonder about politics in the US? They are in a presidential election year and candidates are spending millions of dollars to win a job that pays a fraction of that!! Stop and think what that wasted money could be used for. Think of all the good things that could be done with it, how many people could be helped….. Well, that’s all for today, have a great one and keep checking back with us.

Tuesday Thoughts

February 23, 2016

Good morning everyone, thanks for checking back with us. We hope that your Tuesday is going well so far. Checking the weather maps this morning, there are no developing storms of concern. We will see scattered showers around again today, but you can deal with those. We reported yesterday that some early projections are out for the the upcoming 2016 hurricane season. We already saw hurricane Alex in January which makes it the first hurricane of the season and only the second hurricane reported in the month of January since 1938! The official hurricane season for the Atlantic Region is June 1 to November 30th. Right now (and these are early projections) they are saying 2016 will be below normal for hurricanes. They are projecting 2 major hurricanes, 5 smaller hurricanes, and 13 tropical storms. It should be noted that nobody really knows how the coming season will turn out. One of the major factors will be the current El Nino and how much longer it will last. We will keep you updated as we get closer to hurricane season, and more information is available. Well, that’s going to do it for now, have a great day and keep checking back.

Monday Update

February 22, 2016

This will be very exciting for us because we have never been there before. Checking the weather maps this morning, there are no storms of concern, in fact most areas should enjoy some pretty good weather today and tonight. A programming note for One Caribbean Television, they are putting together a program that will re-cap carnival week from this year. If you did not see the coverage a couple weeks ago or if you saw it and would like to see it again, it will be broadcast very soon. I will let you know when I hear more details. We have about one more week to go in February, did you know this is a leap year? There are 29 days this year instead of the normal 28!! In the news, The World Bank has made 150 million dollars available to Latin America Countries and The Caribbean Islands fighting the Zika Virus spread by mosquitos. Early hurricane projections are out for this year, they are calling for an average season. We already had our first named storm of the year, Hurricane Alex in January. Well, that’s all for now, have a great day everyone and keep checking back.

In the news, Trinidad’s Mayor has stepped down after some remarks he made about a woman from Japan who was at carnival and was killed by strangulation. I was checking the weather maps this morning and we don’t see anything of concern and no developing storms. In the news, some bad news out of Trinidad and Tobago where BP Oil has announced there will be some layoffs because of the recent decline in oil prices. Let’s hope they get things turned around soon. Good morning everyone, it’s hump day!!! From here it’s all downhill to the weekend! Checking the weather maps this morning, there are no developing storms to report on. Most activity lies off the eastern coast of the US over the Atlantic. There will be numerous scattered showers around the Caribbean again tonight. In the news, a deal reached yesterday will begin providing airline flights between the US and Cuba maybe as soon as the fall. This should open up a whole new revenue of tourism for the island. Great news for the Caribbean as travel numbers were up for 2015 beating all expectations in both arrivals and spending. The question now is how will the Zika virus effect the 2016 numbers? Puerto Rico has already seen some wedding and business cancelations. Well that’s all for now, have a great day everyone and keep checking back.
