Monday Updates and Thoughts

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend. As we start the new week we are watching a new storm. Hurricane Fred is located way out in the Atlantic, at the time of this writing he is located approiximately 40 miles west of Rabil in the Cape Verde islands. Fred has winds of 80 mph and is moving to the NW at 12 mph. There are currently Hurricane Warnings posted for the Cape Verde islands. This storm is currently laying down heavy wind and rain across the Cape Verde islands. A couple notes with this storm, we expect to see some weakening on Tuesday. This is the sixth named storm of the season. It is still very early, but the computer models we are watching look like the storm should head north of the Caribbean, we will continue to watch and monitor. In related weather news, Dominica continues to try to put the island back together after being hit hard by Tropical Storm Erika last week. Much damage and loss of 20 lives were reported. Our hearts and prayers go out to the residents of Dominica. Haiti was also hit very hard on Saturday.Congratulations to Jamaica for their great showing in the recent world games (track) in China. Tropical Storm Erika and Updates

Good morning everyone, I hope your Friday is going well so far. As of this writing, Tropical Storm Erika was 90 miles ESE of Santo Domingo in The Dominican Republic with winds of 50 mph and moving to the WNW at 17. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Haiti, SE Bahamas, Central Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, there is a Tropical Storm watch for the NW Bahamas. The storm should be over the Dominican Republic today, over or near Turks and Caicos Islands tonight, and near central and NW Bahamas on Saturday and sat night. Look for 4-8 inches of rain with as much as 12 inches over portions of the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Dominican republic, Haiti, Turks and Caicos Islands, SE and Central Bahamas thru Saturday. There was already some tragedy with 4 people killed in Dominica because of mud slides and as many as 20 people still missing. Thursday Update On Erika

Good morning everyone, hope your Thursday is going well. It has been another busy day in the weather center as we track Tropical Storm Erika. At the time of this writing, Erika was 85 miles West of Guadeloupe with winds of 50 mph and moving to the West at 16 mph. The center of the storm should move near or over the Virgin Islands today, near or north of Puerto Rico tonight and north of the north coast of the Dominican Republic on Friday. We are looking for 3-5″ of rain with as much as 8 inches in some portions of the Leeward Islands, The Virgin Islands, The Dominican Republic, The Turks and Caicos Islands, SE Bahamas through Saturday. There are numerous Warnings and Watches, those are changing rapidly so I would suggest you look for the latest storm updates on this web sight. I should also mention over in the Pacific ocean we have Hurricane Ignacio that looks like it might be headed to Hawaii and also Tropical Storm Jimena that is over open waters and no threat to anyone. In sports congratulations to Usain Bolt of Jamaica who defeated Justin Gatlin from the US in the 200 meters race with a time of 19.55 sec. Bolt defeated Gatlin in the 100 meters over the weekend. Wednesday Look at Erika

Good morning everyone and happy hump day!! Well, the big storm continues to be Tropical Storm Erika, at the time of this writing she is located approximately 540 miles East of Antigua with winds of 45 mpg and moving West at 17 mph. The center of the storm could move over or near portions of the Leeward Islands tonight and near the Virgin Islands on Thursday. We are looking for 2-4 inches of rain with as much as 8 inches in some areas for portions of the Leeward Islands, Virgin islands and Puerto Rico on Thursday and Friday. Right now we have tropical Storm Warnings for the following….Anguilla, Saba and St Eustatius, St Maarten, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, Us Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands….Tropical Storm Watches are issued for Guadeloupe, St Martin and St Berthelemy. TRopical Storm Erika Update

Good morning everyone, hope your Tuesday is going well so far. Checking the weather this morning, we have another storm. Tropical Storm Erika is located about 750 miles East of the Leeward Islands with winds of 45 mph and moving quite rapidly to the west at 20 mph. This storm is expected to start influencing the islands Wednesday night or Thursday. There are currently Tripical Storm Watches for Montserrat, Antiqua, Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Anquilla, Saba, St Eustatius and St Maarten. Remnants of Tropical Storm Danny are bringing some much needed rain to Puerto Rico who has been under a drought situation. One other weather note, Tropical Depression 12-E is well out in the Pacific and no threat to land. Well that’s all for today, have a great day and keep checking back with us. Monday Updates

Good morning everyone, hope you had a great weekend. Our big storm continues to be Danny which has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression at the time I am writing this. Danny has winds of 35 mph and is moving to the West at about 19 mph. Danny is expected to weaken even more overnight, however this storm could still provide 2-4 inches of rain for portions of the Leeward Islands, the US and British Virgin Islands as well as Puerto Rico. This storm could be a blessing for portions of the Caribbean and Puerto Rico as they continue under a drought situation.Danny was a catagory 3 hurricane at one time. In the news, Usain Bolt beat Mr Gatlin from the US to remain the fastest man in the world, Bolt defeated Gatlin in China over the weekend. In Trinidad, alot of normal rain is causing problems on the island.Flooding is a concern right now. Well that’s all for now, have a great day everyone.

Friday Updates

Good morning everyone and T.G.I.F. Checking the weather maps this morning, we are tracking Hurricane Danny which is currently about 985 miles E-SE of the Leeward Islands with winds of 85 mph and moving W-NW at 10 mph. Danny is a small hurricane right now and there have been no coastal watches or warnings posted as yet. We will continue to track this storm throughout the weekend, you can get updates here on the web or at One Caribbean Television, also CBS TV in Puerto Rico. I also want to mention we are watching a broad non tropical area of low pressure several hundred miles south of Bermuda that is causing a large area of showers and thundersrorms, this system will be moving north during the weekend. Finally I want to mention that there is a tropical wave just off the coast of Africa. this is showeing an area of showers and thunderstorms and could develop over the next several days. In the news, drought conditions continue through parts of the Caribbean so some rain would greatly be appreciates. Drought conditions now exist in Cuba, Puerto Rico and St Kits. In sports this is the big weekend when Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin from the US will race against each other in the World Championships in China.Well, that’s all for now, have a great weekend and keep checking back with us.

Thursday Thoughts & Updates

Good morning everyone, hope your Thursday is going well so far. The big story continues to be the weather. Tropical Storm Danny is in the Atlantic approximately 1200 miles East of the Lesser Antillies with winds of 50 mph and moving to the West at 17 mph. There are no coastal watches or warnings with this storm so far. I should also mention that we are watching a surface trough and an upper level low producing showers and thunderstorms around Bermuda. Wednesday Updates

Good morning everyone and happy hump day!! Checking the weather maps this morning we are watching a new Tropical Storm called Danny located about 1445 miles East of the Lesser Antillies with winds of 50 mph and is moving to the West at 14 mph. This is the forth named storm of the season. We expect Danny to develop into a hurricane probably later on Thursday. Right now there are no coastal watches or warnings. This is a relatively slow moving storm so it should give us time to prepare. We will continue to monitor it’s progress and of course you can get complete coverage from the weather team on One Caribbean Television. In the news, the first Catholic church to be built in Cuba is under construction, it is expected to be completed next year. The Pope is planning a visit to the island in the near future. Tuesday Update

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday to you. Checking the weather maps this morning we are watching closely a low pressure located several hundred miles W-SW of The Cape Verde Islands. This system seems to be gaining strength and could possibly become a Tropical Depression later today as it tracks W-NW at about 10-15 mph. In the news, Joey and I will travel to Kentucky in September to cover the international boat show and report on what is new in the boating industry, there are quite a few boaters in the Caribbean as you well know. Also in September we will be headed to Brooklyn New York to cover the annual Caribbean parade, it is one of the largest in New York. In the news, a Trinidad man was arrested for the death of a man at a wedding in New York City some 16 years ago. Prisoners in Costa Rica are getting more creative in smuggling drugs into the prison, recently they found a pigeon with a fanny pack containing drugs!!
